Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Does the SpeedyLink require any special skills to install?
A: No. Watch the video to get an idea of just how simple it is.
Q: I was told that your product could damage my motor, is that true?
A: Absolutely NOT. Your golf cart was specifically designed with a matching motor and controller combination. The controller is what regulates the amount of current that is sent to the motor, and has a predefined maximum that is within the design specifications of the motor. Speedylink does not alter this maximum. The motor sees the most current when you start from a dead stop, obviously, and then drops when you reach the desired rolling speed. The speedylink merely shifts the performance curve to not reduce the current as much when you reach the programmed 12.5mph. It allows the controller to sustain a reasonable output past that point, but not even close to that experienced from a dead stop. NOTE: Your Club Car Dealer can re-program the cart to go up to the same speeds that a Speedylink will provide, you just need to drag the cart there, wait and pay $$. They would not offer the service if it would damage the vehicle. SpeedyLink is the quick easy alternative - install it in seconds and you are Done!
Q: Will there be any extra load on my batteries?
A: No more than you would have normally experienced for the same driving profile. Battery output and motor loads to measure performance are commonly discussed in terms of Amperes. A more accurate measure, however, is the actual power consumed in Watts over time. This accounts for the voltage as well, which typically fluctuates during high current draw. If we calculate the power consumed to travel say, 1 mile @ 12mph you would be draining the batteries for 5 minutes. If you traveled that same mile @ 20mph, it would only take you 3 minutes. That is 2 minutes that you are not draining the batteries, even though you may have used more wattage, it is over a shorter period of time. The total power consumed in either trip will be close to the same. We are currently doing field testing with measurement devices to publish the exact results for you.
Q: My cart is not a Club Car Precedent or IQ, do you have any other products to give me a little extra speed cheaply?
A: Although this was designed using the Precedent as a test article, other manufactures may use the same motor/controller architecture. If your vehicle has a RUN/TOW switch, it is of the computer controlled architecture and if your motor also utilizes a speed sensor and has a GREY, 3 pin connector similar to that in the picture, SpeedyLink might work on your vehicle.
Q: Why should I choose your SpeedyLink instead of buying a new motor or controller/motor combo?
A: SpeedyLink is a welcomed alternative that will satisfy most everyday cart users for increasing speed. Many owners just want to pick up the pace a little bit so they can keep up with there friends, or just enjoy the ride a little more. SpeedyLink is the affordable answer. Other folks really want BIG power to climb hills, do wheelies and such. For them, a bigger, motor, higher power controller, larger battery cables and oversized solenoids are the right answer. There are a number of quality aftermarket motor and controller suppliers out there like PlumQuick or D&D. If you want BIG power, check'm out. If you just want to "wake up" your slow cart to make it more functional and enjoyable to cruise around in, SpeedyLink is your affordable, quick and simple alternative. It was designed by a retired Lockheed Engineer to be just that!
Q: Will it Work on "my" Cart?
A: SpeedyLink was designed for the 2004 and later model "IQ" version Club Cars. The IQ versions are identified by the letter Q in the serial number prefix like "xQ-xxxxx". Some earlier versions may work but have not been verified. Carts that have had the "high speed code 4" programmed by Club Car (that already go 19.5 mph) will not see an appreciable increase in speed. Carts that have an increased speed due to speed gear mods or taller tires though, can still gain a speed advantage with the speedyLink. If it does not work on your particular cart, send it right back for a full refund and our thanks for trying our product!
